About Tucson Hardscapes
We build the hard surfaces of a Sonoran Desert yard, and we build them from the ground up rather than from the surface down.
- Base and drainage written into every scope
- One contractor for the whole yard
- Fixed written quotes, itemised
- Straight answers, including when the answer is no
[ 01 ]Why we exist
Why this company exists
Most of the hardscape we get called to repair in Tucson was not built badly on the surface. It was built badly underneath. Two inches of base where it needed more, no edge restraint, and a slope running toward the house instead of away from it. The surface was laid competently on top of all three.
That happens because the parts of this trade that decide whether a patio lasts are the parts nobody can inspect once it is finished, and because a quote that quietly reduces them wins jobs against quotes that do not. It is very hard for a homeowner to tell the difference between two prices when only one of them specifies what is under the surface.
We built this business around that gap. We write the excavation depth, the base thickness and the drainage plan into the scope, so you can compare our number against anyone else's on the same terms. Sometimes that comparison goes against us and the other contractor is genuinely doing the same work for less. That is a fair outcome.
The other reason we exist is that most Tucson yards need more than one trade at once. A patio usually needs a wall to hold the grade and shade before anyone will use it in June, and splitting that across three contractors is how joints end up misaligned and how nobody owns the low spot where the water sits. We do all of it, so there is nobody to blame.
[ 02 ]How we work
How we work
The ground decides everything
Excavation, base, compaction and drainage come before material, pattern and colour. If we are talking about paver colours before we have talked about where the water goes, something has gone wrong.
Build for the climate you have
Surface temperature in July, caliche in the excavation, monsoon runoff in August, hard water on every surface. Generic hardscaping practice imported from a milder climate does not survive here, and the failures show up in year three rather than year one.
Say the unprofitable thing
There are jobs where concrete is the better answer than pavers, where a repair beats a rebuild, where turf is the wrong product for that space, and where the honest recommendation is to spend less. We would rather say so and lose the larger job.
Write it down
Scope in writing, quote itemised, allowances named rather than buried. If something genuinely cannot be known before the ground is opened, we say that plainly instead of pricing in a cushion and hoping.
